Tops with ties – we're going cute

Is it just me or are tops with side or front ties everywhere this summer? Wear them without anything underneath, if you dare, or over a t-shirt, as an alternative to a cardigan or boxy shirt.

I looked into it and it seems it all started in Copenhagen and with Danish brand ‘Ganni’ last year. By now many shops carry similar styles. But pattern designers in the craft community have noticed the trend and released knitting, sewing and crochet patterns for tops with front as well as side ties. Find five options below!

Diamond Tie Top by Anxious Girl Knits

Mia, the designer behind Anxious Girl Knits, created a cropped tie top with a lovely diamond texture. It can be worn both backwards and forwards and the long, flared sleeves are reminiscent of a 1970s cardigan. The pattern is written in English and includes eight sizes. Mia also has a sleeveless vest version available and generally loves ties, so many of her patterns include this feature.

The top is worked in garter stitch starting from the bottom of the front piece and worked up over the shoulders and down the back, in one piece. You can knit this with one or two ties on each side. The pattern is drafted for DK weight yarn, comes with ten sizes and is available in both Danish and English.

Vest No 46 by Daisy & Peace

This round-up would not be complete without a crochet pattern, which seems very much a craft for the summer. Daisy & Peace’s Vest No 46 feature a lovely pattern all over and with wider side ties it looks a bit boxier than other more dainty patterns. Six sizes are available and the pattern is written in English.
